It's finally here. After putting Graphene into Head's Tennis and Squash line of racquets that made them both #1 selling lines in each sport they finally decided to inject Graphene into their 2014-2015 racquetball line to make the best Racquetball Racquet series in the history of Head Racquetball. Right now our best all time selling line of racquets we have at Racquetworld.com is the Liquid Metal Series and Graphene will be next in line as this technology infiltrates the racquetball world. This year Head has 3 racquet weights to choose from which are the 160, 170, and 180. If you have a very fast swing speed or are a younger player (35 or less) grab the 160 but if you are 35+ the 170 or 180 would work best for you.

What is Graphene exactly? Well Graphene is an ultra-light and ultra-strong substance which is 200 times stronger than steel. Head places Graphene in the shaft so that weight can be redistributed to more functionally relevant areas of the handle and tip. This unique construction provides players with increased swing weight for more power with less effort.

These are available in both the smaller 3 5/8 and larger 3 7/8 grip sizes.

If you're unsure about your model or weight...try our DEMO Program.

A racquet cover IS NOT provided by the manufacturer with this racquet. You have the option to add a cover for $8-$12 if you would like.

    RacquetWorld General Notes

RacquetWorld recommends changing the grip to a Python (Our favorite), which will be $12.00 installed, for the added traction to prevent slippage.  The Racquetworld Grommet Tape upgrade ($2) can save you $$ in the long run as sometimes strings break from the grommet being worn down. For those who don't know what the grommet is, it's the plastic piece at the top of the racquet that the strings go through. When you hit the wall and floor this gets worn down.

The Python Atlas Deluxe string upgrade is recommended because factory string is less playable/durable than the Python Atlas Deluxe string we suggest. At the time of purchase, the Python Atlas Deluxe restring upgrade is $29.95.  It's normally $45 if you mailed the racquet to us later so you save $15 if you choose the upgrade right away. This string comes in Black or Natural and it’s a very soft string with incredible playability/durability. We recommend the 17g as it’s right in the middle of 16g (most durable) and 18g (most playable but less durable).

If you choose a vibration dampener go with the Python Vibration Dampner (Our favorite), Head Megasorb, Gamma Worm or the BBB (Big Bad Band).

The wristlacer black is the default wrist tether that comes on your racquet at no charge. If you want to change colors, a small fee of $3.95 will be added for switching.

A question we get everyday is "What is Grommet Tape?"It's a piece of tape that goes over the head (bumper) of your racquet. Sometimes you need a restring because of a broken bumper. For an extra 2 bucks to add this, it could save you $25-40!!

We get follow up calls/emails everyday thanking us for the upgrades as they really help bring out the performance of the racquet.

Racquet Covers - Choose one for $8-$12 (RacquetWorld Cover is Only $8.00)

A full racquet cover is NOT provided by the manufacturer with this racquet. You have the option of adding a full cover for $8-12 if you would like. If you want the best cover on the market buy the Racquetworld Cover. It is oversized, has a full outside pocket, a handle strap and a large shoulder strap as well as a ventilated pocket to let your grip breathe and best of all its $2-$4 less than the others because we want to help you by supporting our company! The charge will only be $8.00 when added to the cart for this choice instead of $10.00-$12.00 like the other covers.

I've been practicing with this racquet for a few weeks. The Ektelon racquet is my preferred option for playing. I had an incredible experience playing with this racquet, its power and control surpass any other racquet I've used. Despite being a fan of Ektelon racquets, I'm thinking about purchasing another Head Radical 170. I observe one discrepancy that is exceptionally faint.

I had been playing with a Black widow 160 for years and finally upgraded to this one. The power difference was immediately apparent. The shape/size are very similar to the Black widow so there wasn't much adjustment needed for me. It does require the upgrade on the grip. I added a python grip and that really helped.

This is the first time I have purchased anything from Racquet World. I though I had found a similar product for a cheaper price than I could get here, but that just added several days and a return for incorrectly advertised merchandise! Racquet World came through and this racquet is the answer. The Radical 170 delivers precise shot placement and power!

I like the racquet, the degree of stiffness, the balance... There's a few things I don't like (that I've seen on similar racquets) 1. The Grip starts to unwrap at the butt on the 2nd day of play. I'm constantly trying to roll it back. I'll be replacing it soon. 2. The Lanyard came off, once again on like the 2nd day of play. I don't know why the factory can't find a knot that works. 3. One of the main strings about 3 left of center drifts out. That tell me it's not strung consistently tight. Not a big deal but you think the factory could do better. 4. I like the racquet, just wish they would tighten up their Quality control

    Nice racquet, bad factory strings
    11/13/2022
    Verified Buyer
The racquet is great. Balanced, good looking, and can hit hard. However, giving 4 out of 5 stars because the factory string was vibrating a lot, to the point I had to restring it or my arms would feel the pain.

If your looking for great dink shot control or power you can't go wrong. Playing with it for over 3 years now and I rotate a spare. They have survived walls and several racquet smacks, I have a stack of broken racquets and finally broke one only after a very hard racquets collision. For a while, I was thinking these were invincible. 6 stars

    Even Balance

I love the even balance of this racquet. I am always looking for an edge so I've tried the newer models and other brands but I just can't find one that feels as good as this one. The head heavier racquets just don't feel as good as this even balanced racquet.

    To much fun!!
    12/11/2021
I just finished a week of demoing this racquet and a Wilson. I normally play with the GearBox GBX1 170Q. I went to the courts to practice on Monday and planned an hour practice, by the time I was done and checked my phone 2 hours had elapsed. This racquet was to much fun to hit and the power and control is like no other racquet I’ve played with. I am a fan of GearBox racquets, however, I will be purchasing 2 of these Head Radical 170’s.

Solid racquet. Took a little getting used to as I played with a 170 Toron for a lot of years. The control on this racquet is excellent, the power is very good. My pinch shots have noticeably improved. I'm going to buy a 2nd as a back-up. I did have it re-gripped and restrung prior to delivery.

I bought one of these last year, and it felt good and plays well, slightly better compared to the Royal Flush model I have been playing with for 5-6 years (and which I had previously gone back to after trying the Hades model). I liked it enough to now get another one as a backup.

    New to this racquet
    12/04/2018

I am new to using a Head racquet. I moved to this racquet when I heard Ektalon was going out of business. I had used Ektalon racquets for quiet a few years. The Head handle is a bit rounder than the oblong shaped ektalon handle. It took me a bit to get used to the new shape, and "find the notch" when I shifted to backhand, but now I have made the switch. I love the racquet, and have ordered a second one so I am officially now a Head racquet fan.

The Radical Graphene 170 Plays Great!!
    09/26/2018
    Verified Buyer
I went with this racquet because Racquetworld said it was their "#1 Selling High End Series". I thought about doing a demo program first but ended up just buying the 170 gram weight Radical instead as it was in my price range of under $150 and rolled the dice hoping it would work out. After one night of playing I can see why it's their #1 selling series. It is awesome!! The amount of power and touch on the court both improved over my current Ektelon Toron I was using immediately. I would recommend this racquet to anyone.

    Exclusive RacquetWorld Racquet Ratings

Ratings and comparisons for all racquets can be found in RacquetWolrd Exclusive Racquet Ratings

    Racquetworld's Durability Rating:  95.00

    Racquetworld's Power Rating: Age 24-  99.03  Age 35  99.66  Age 45+  99.08

    Racquetworld's Control Rating #1 (Front Court):  99.70

Control 1 (Front Court) represents how the racquet handles upfront in the court. We are basically looking at how certain components stacked together to produce good (or bad) racquet maneuverability. To figure this out we look at the weight, balance point, and shape of the frame. We throw all this info into Pat's brain along with a couple hours of hit testing and out pops the rating. This value is useful especially for doubles players who find themselves covering the upfront court a lot. It is also good to know if you are a good server and find yourself quickly putting away returns off your serve without leaving front middle court.

    Racquetworld's Control Rating #2 (Back Court):  99.25

Control 2 (Back Court) represents the traditional control rating when taking a full shot from mid to back court. Our goal with control is to redirect the Force of the ball. We again focus on weight, balance point, shape, string pattern and tension, frame stiffness and on court experience.

    Racquetworld's Overall Rating: Age 24-   97.86   Age 35  99.23   Age 45+  99.15

    Graphene - New for 2014 - 2015

Graphene exploded on the tennis world last year and has now made it over to Head's Racquetball Racquet Line..

Discovered in 2004, Graphene™ consists of a single two-dimensional layer of carbon atoms. This material has a breaking strength 200 times greater than steel, which makes it the ultimate substance for creating new HEAD racquetball racquet frames with exceptional properties. Graphene technology allows for the first time an optimal redistribution of weight in HEAD racquets allowing for the creation of lightweight racquets with balance point never before acheived.

    Benefit:

    • Has a breaking strength 200 times greater than steel.
    • Enables us to create lightweight racquets and shift the balance points down to a level we could not achieve in the past.
    • This creates increased swing speed which causes the racquet to become radically powerful.
    • In addition to the increased power, the racquet also becomes very maneuverable.

This results in maximum energy transfer which increases power on every shot.

    Power Channels

    Power Channels

Head takes Power Channels to the next level! This power technology is created through molded tubes in the throat, eliminating exterior string holes and the traditional grommet system. This lengthens each main string and creates maximum stiffness which results in an incredible increase in raw power. The Power Channels are now equiped with Teflon friction reducing polymer allowing the strings to slide through the Power Channels with nearly no friction resulting in maximum energy transfer which increases power on every shot

    Power Stabilizers

    Power Stabilizers

Head panteted twin-tube technology has been strategically positioned in the head of the racquet to provide maximum stability on every shot.

    DuraZone String Pattern

    DuraZone String Pattern

Head engineers have eliminated 33% of the grommet holes in the head of the racquet by developing innovative shared ports. This results in increased durability and maximum stiffness. In addition, Head has lowered the Power Channels deeper into the throat of the racquet increasing the length of each main string for more power.
