The Liquid Metal 170, 180 and 190 were Racquetworld's pick for racquet series of the year in the 2004-2005 season!!!

With this Liquid Metal series being under $100, this is probably our pick for best racquet for the $$$ right now.

Head combined the major success of their Megablast technology with their new Liquid Metal Technology to make a phenomenal frame. With the amount of power you get from this stick and the combination of touch in the front and back court, this racquet is unparallel.

The unique Liquid Metal atomic structure does not deform on impact, resulting in ultimate energy return and creates 29% more power in your shot!!

These are available in smaller 3 5/8 grip size only.

If you're unsure about your model or weight...try our DEMO Program.

A racquet cover IS NOT provided by the manufacturer with this racquet. You have the option to add a cover for $10 if you would like.

    RacquetWorld General Notes

RacquetWorld recommends changing the grip to a Python (Our favorite), which will be $11.00 installed, for the added traction to prevent slippage.  The Racquetworld Grommet Tape upgrade ($1) can save you $$ in the long run as sometimes strings break from the grommet being worn down. For those who don't know what the grommet is, it's the plastic piece at the top of the racquet that the strings go through. When you hit the wall and floor this gets worn down.

The Python Atlas string upgrade is recommended because factory string is less playable/durable than the Python Atlas string we suggest. At the time of purchase, the Python Atlas restring upgrade is $22.00.  It's normally $36 if you mailed the racquet to us later so you save $14 if you choose the upgrade right away. Another string we highly recommend is the Python Atlas Deluxe restring upgrade ($25.00), and it’s a little softer than the original Atlas for those players that prefer a softer string with incredible playability/durability.

If you choose a vibration dampener go with the Python Vibration Dampner (Our favorite), Head Megasorb, Gamma Worm or the BBB (Big Bad Band).

The wristlacer black is the default wrist tether that comes on your racquet at no charge. If you want to change colors, a small fee of $2.95 will be added for switching.

A question we get everyday is "What is Grommet Tape?"It's a piece of tape that goes over the head (bumper) of your racquet. Sometimes you need a restring because of a broken bumper. For an extra buck to add this, it could save you $25-40!!

We get follow up calls/emails everyday thanking us for the upgrades as they really help bring out the performance of the racquet.

Racquet Covers - Choose one for $10 (RacquetWorld Cover is Only $8.00)

A full racquet cover is NOT provided by the manufacturer with this racquet. You have the option of adding a full cover for $8-10 if you would like. If you want the best cover on the market buy the Racquetworld Cover. It is oversized, has a full outside pocket, a handle strap and a large shoulder strap as well as a ventilated pocket to let your grip breathe and best of all its $2 less than the others because we want to help you by supporting our company! The charge will only be $8.00 when added to the cart for this choice instead of $10.00 like the other covers.

Third time I've purchased this model. I had switched to a heavier model but decided to stick with my favorite weight.

    Great Raquetball Racquet
    Verified Buyer
I've been playing with the Liquid Metal 170 for the last two years. This is a great racquet for the price; but not the best. Has great control and plenty of power. I like the design, feels solid and pretty strong, I've hit the wall and hit the ground floor many times and withstand the harsh choppy play. This is a great step up from an entry level racquet; which is how I upgraded to this one. This is an evenly weighted racquet (not top heavy). I would describe this racquet as a great all around, good for power and good control. But not the most powerful (gearbox) or the best touch either. For the price, not much not to like. Highly recommended. I play three times a week at a competitive/casual environment.

I have the original from 2004. Bought this one for additional backup racquet. Latest Liquid Metal is of equal performance. Just the right mix of power and touch for my game.

good racquet, but broke too soon
    Verified Buyer
nice racquet at great price, good control, nice even weight, but it broke after about 3 month or so. I don't believe I was playing too aggressively, perhaps unlucky.

Nice line of racquets, have played with them many games, great value, but my frame broke after just 3 sessions, playing doubles my partner and I racquets collided, barely making contact, just a routine volley, not really a full swing. second time this has happened in the last 3 years. Fortunately Head has a very good warranty, 1 year and Court Sports facilities the free replacement.

I have purchased at least 5 of these racquets since they were first introduced, probably at least 10 years ago. I am still using 3 of them, including the one I just purchased. I am delighted that they are still being produced and sold, as the price always stays below $100, which I consider a bargain considering the quality of the racquet. The power with low weight suits me just fine. I've hit with other racquets costing more than twice as much; frankly, there just isn't that much difference. Thanks Head!!

    broken Liquid Metal Racquets
    Verified Buyer
I have used this model of racquet for years. I like everything about it. However, this past year, playing doubles, my partner has broken 3 of my racquets when we both went for the ball and his racquet hit mine. In one case it was a brand new one! His racquet has never broken in these clashes (dont have the brand he uses at hand right now). This may be just tough luck but it seems a bit strange. If anyone else has found this Liquid Metal racquet to be unusually fragile, it would be nice to know, and then maybe pass it on to Head.

    Exclusive RacquetWorld Racquet Ratings

Ratings and comparisons for all racquets can be found in RacquetWolrd Exclusive Racquet Ratings

    Racquetworld's Durability Rating:  90.00

    Racquetworld's Power Rating: Age 24-  95.54  Age 35  95.54  Age 45+  93.56

    Racquetworld's Control Rating #1 (Front Court):  98.01

Control 1 (Front Court) represents how the racquet handles upfront in the court. We are basically looking at how certain components stacked together to produce good (or bad) racquet maneuverability. To figure this out we look at the weight, balance point, and shape of the frame. We throw all this info into Pat's brain along with a couple hours of hit testing and out pops the rating. This value is useful especially for doubles players who find themselves covering the upfront court a lot. It is also good to know if you are a good server and find yourself quickly putting away returns off your serve without leaving front middle court.

    Racquetworld's Control Rating #2 (Back Court):  97.02

Control 2 (Back Court) represents the traditional control rating when taking a full shot from mid to back court. Our goal with control is to redirect the Force of the ball. We again focus on weight, balance point, shape, string pattern and tension, frame stiffness and on court experience.

    Racquetworld's Overall Rating: Age 24-   95.78   Age 35  95.78   Age 45+  94.79

    Liquid Metal...

Head took the megablast technology to a whole new level with their new Liquid Metal Megablast's. These are available in 170, 180, and 190 weights.  These are the hardest hitting racquetball racquets in Head's long history. This technology was such a success in Tennis that they moved it right on over to Racquetball where it's continuing to boom. What does it do to your game you ask? Well, the secret of Liquid Metal performance is its liquid atomic structure. Compared to conventional metals, it offers advantages that are far beyond today's racquet technology. The Liquid metal atomic structure does not deform on impact, resulting in ultimate energy return. Standard atomic structure deforms on impact causing extreme energy loss. What's all this mean...29% MORE POWER!! Liquid Metal atomic structure is 2 1/2 times stronger than titanium and delivers 29% more power. Liquid Metal technology utilizes the pure energy of ball impact making the full energy available for maximum power return.

    Total Sweetspot Construction (TSC)...

Through its innovative corrugated structure, Total Sweetspot Construction increases torsional stability in the racquet head. TSC extends the sweetspot throughout the entire racquet head resulting in ultimate control. Now every shot feels like you've hit the sweetspot.

The megablast technology served to be a success for Head last year as we named it Racquetworld's 2003-2004 racquet of the year.  IT HIT'S HARD! Head decided to move into the power racquet market this year with the world's first string-bed energy return system. A specially formulated super thermo-polymer material called HEAD ENERGY is placed under the bumper guard and grommet area effectively suspending the entire string bed. Upon ball impact and deflection of the string bed, the HEAD ENERGY material explodes back to its original shape creating an incredible "trampoline effect" for unprecedented ball acceleration.

Head's new power technology breakthrough creates more stiffness in the throat area of the racquet for unbelievable power on every shot. Molded tubes pass inside the throat, completely eliminating lower exterior string holes for maximum stiffness. The result is an incredible increase in raw power. In addition, each Power Channel tube is wrapped in a special vibration dampening material. Since each of the 16 main strings pass through one of these tubes, a built in vibration dampening system is created for the ultimate in comfort for all levels of play.

All Head racquets are designed with maximum added length for ultimate power and reach.
